Classic Gallery
Classic Gallery is a standards compliant, fully accessible, image gallery that works in any browser, using semantic mark-up combined with CSS.
Features
- Localise your gallery with custom language files (output uses UTF-8 character set).
- Create different gallery categories.
- Thumbnail images automatically created when you upload an image.
- Uploaded images are stamped with a customisable watermark to make image theft harder.
- Page layout is fully customisable using Code Chunks.
- Page style is fully customisable using CSS.
- Navigate through a gallery one image at a time, like a slide-show, using mouse or keyboard.
- All images contain "alt" text.
- Works straight out of the box with minimal configuring - just set up your database and go!
- Can enable Mod_Rewrite to make your gallery search engine friendly (Apache servers only).
- Option to use user-friendly popup windows
- Links open in the current browser window by default.
- Visitors with Javascript enabled browsers are presented with a toggle enabling them to decide if photos should appear in a popup window or not.
- Visitors using browsers that are not Javascript enabled are not bothered by a redundant toggle.
Download
Download has been suspended while I work on Version 2, which will have a new payment model. Free and open source, but with a fee if you wish me to install it on your server for you.
You can follow development (including release notes) on the Classic Gallery Backpack Page.
You can also view an online Help Manual (also included with the gallery).
Requirements
To install and use Classic Gallery, your server must meet the following requirements.
Minimum:
- Apache 1.3
- PHP 4.3.9
- MySQL 3.23 (the ability to create new databases not required)
- The ability to change file permissions (chmod).
You can try it on lesser specs, but it won't be supported - let me know how you get on though.
Optimum (i.e. fully tested):
- Apache 2.0.46
- PHP 4.4.1 (or better, PHP 5.0.5)
- MySQL 4.1.14
IMPORTANT:
- If you wish to upload GIF or PNG images, your PHP installation must have the GD-library version greater than 'gd-1.6'.
- Furthermore, to upload GIF images you must have PHP version 4.3.9 or greater, or PHP 5.0.1 (so, not 5.0.0) or greater.
- If you wish to use friendly URLs (for search engines), then you also need the ability to use .htaccess files with Mod_Rewite enabled.
Themes
The way Classic Gallery is designed using "code chunks" and external CSS, means that users can create their own themes for the look and feel of their gallery.
